The
Playoff Schedule: Bye Weeks & Play-Ins

Playoff Solution would schedule games in late December and January at
the four BCS Bowls. The playoffs would start around Christmas
with two play-in games at the Fiesta Bowl and the Sugar Bowl.
The six automatically qualifying conference champions (ACC,
Big 12, Big East, Big Ten, Pac-12 and SEC) would have a bye this first
week. Around New Year's, the four BCS Bowls would be played
on their regular schedule, and the winners of those Bowls would meet in
semifinal games the next week. The Eastern Semifinal would be
played at the Orange Bowl, and the Western Semifinal would be played at
the Rose Bowl. The championship would be held on the next
Saturday at a BCS Bowl site on a rotating schedule.

The bowl season starts every year around Christmas, and the Playoff Solution would start at the same time with two play-in games at the Fiesta Bowl and the Sugar Bowl. The champions of the automatic qualifying conferences would have a bye week, waiting for New Year's Day to play their first games.

Year's Day Bowl Games January

As it has been for decades, New Year's Day will be the center of the college football postseason. The four BCS Bowls will be played either on New Year's Day or in the nights immediately afterward. These games would match the champions of the major conferences against each other and against the play-in winners.

One week after the New Year's Day games, two semifinal games would be played: an eastern semifinal between the Orange Bowl and Sugar Bowl champions and a western semifinal between the Rose Bowl and Fiesta Bowl winners.

Championship Game January

The National Championship Game would be played in mid-January, on the Saturday in the week after the semifinals. There would be at least one week for the teams to travel. There are no NFL games on this Saturday because it is the week of the Conference Championship games, so the game could draw a very large TV audience.
